Aberdeen Model Railway Club are on the right track to offer visitors an interesting day. In fact, it can offer visitors to its annual show a whopping 18 tracks to feast their eyes upon.
The club, which is based in Ferryhill near the Duthie Park, forms part of the Ferryhill Railways Heritage Trust. The club is now 42 years old and it has staged numerous exhibitions over the years. This weekend, it will stage its 37th annual exhibition and is looking forward to welcoming people of all ages along to see a fascinating selection of model railways, including one which pays homage to Stonehaven.
Taking place at RGU Sport on Garthdee Road, Aberdeen, this Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, the venue will be packed with model railways, trade stalls and model society displays, while several local hobby groups will present demonstrations. There will also be a kids’ play area, so plenty to keep everyone happy.
This year, there will be 18 model railway layouts created by groups from throughout Scotland and, for the first time, there will be a layout based on a small station in southern Germany. There will also be four American layouts, together with many layouts based on UK operations. The club will also be exhibiting its new layout Cala na Creige (Gaelic for Stonehaven), which is based loosely on the station of that name.
Away from the world of model railways, the club will welcome a selection of local hobby games groups for the first time. These groups will give the public the chance to take part in many activities. In addition, there will be the chance to take part in a number of war games, together with seeing the models built by members of Aberdeen Modellers Society.
The club is also delighted at being able to welcome David Graham with his LEGO trains for the first time. David will also be supported by a number of local LEGO modellers who will show off some of their creations. Visitors will get a chance to drive Scalextric cars, while members of Grampian Dolls House and Miniaturists Club will keep lots of young ladies happy as it presents a selection of dolls house displays and demonstrations.
The exhibition runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday and from 10am-4pm on Sunday. Tickets cost £5 per adult, £2.50 for children and students, and £4 per concession. Family tickets are available at £12.50. The club supports the excellent work undertaken by CLAN. and has provided a number of free and discounted tickets to families affected by cancer in the north-east. Collections for CLAN will take place during the weekend at the venue.
