Dozens of residents gathered yesterday at a sheltered housing facility in Aberdeenshire to host a tea party for tenants, staff and guests to celebrate the centre’s 25th anniversary.
The celebrations saw the residents of Provost Lawrence Court in Kintore regaled in their finery and being served tea with an assortment of sandwiches and cakes.
The facility is currently home to 39 occupants aged between 53 and 97.
The home was named after Provost Lawrence, and at yesterday’s celebrations, his daughter was invited along for a spot of tea and a catch up with residents.
Carol Robertson, 58, said: “It’s a lovely occasion and very nice to be asked to the centre as it was named after my father.
“It brings back many memories, because I live in the area and I saw the centre being built.
“There are often different events and relatives can stay as well.
“Since then, the home and its residents have become a key part of the community.”
The event was partially organised by chairman of the committee, Eddie Crockett, 84, who has lived at the facility for just over two years after moving to Kintore from Elgin.
Mr Crockett said: “Celebrations like this are an exciting way to get all the residents together before Christmas and help keep the home sociable as there is always someone around ready for a smile or a laugh.”
The celebration saw one of the home’s longest residents, Eric Foote, 90, cut a cake to commemorate the anniversary.
Mr Foote moved to the home 23 years ago with his wife from Peterborough.
He said: “We’ve done many sociable events since I have been here which makes it a great place to live with many activities always going on.”
Next year, the home plans to fit new kitchens and bathrooms for its residents throughout the 32 flats on the premises.
Douglas Milne, Garioch area manager, was also involved in the celebrations.
Mr Milne said: “It’s lovely to be invited along and I really appreciate being able to share the celebrations with the staff, guests and residents alike.
“The people here are delightful, the staff are really hardworking and Aberdeenshire Council are very proud to run a facility like this for the benefit of people in the community.”
