Who: Members of the Aberdeen Buchan Association and friends
enjoyed the evening, and this year’s speaker was Graham Thomson, a financial advisor with Shell and a Lonach Highlander.
Why: The Aul’ Eel event has been held since 1911, even during the war years. The evening starts with the suppin’ of sowens, followed by the top table being piped to their seats, then a dissertation is given on the ceremony of the yule log. The flaming yule log is piped in, carried by two gentlemen, and two ladies carry a brass candlestick each with a lit candle. Grace is said and dinner is served, and an evening of dancing follows.
