The Dingwall-based distillery has revealed the pre-sale for its first release.

GlenWyvis Distillery, a community-owned business, is giving Scotch whisky fans the opportunity to be some of the first in the world to bag themselves a bottle of its inaugural single malt.

Three years after filling its first cask, pre-sales for the product go on sale today which will be bottled and officially released by Christmas 2021.

The whisky is the first to be distilled in the town in almost 100 years with more than 600 casks maturing in an on-site warehouse.

It has been stored in first fill bourbon and sherry casks and will be bottled at just over three years old at a strength of 50% ABV.

Opening in late 2017 with the first cask being filled in early 2018, the firm was the world’s first 100% community-owned distillery, crowdfunded by more than 3,500 shareholders from 40 countries investing £3.8 million into the business.

Distillery manager Matthew Farmer said: “Having our warehouse right next door, it’s been fascinating to snapshot this new spirit in all its different stages, particularly how it interacts with all our various cask types over time.

“Picking which ones to show first is no easy task. Three years is a special milestone for us, as our hard work legally becomes ‘whisky’ for the first time, but it’s really just the beginning.”

The whisky is priced at £100 per 70cl bottle and is available to purchase from the GlenWyvis online shop with 5% of all online sales will go into the GlenWyvis Community Benefit Fund.

Once a certain amount has been reached, funds will be made available to local groups and community trusts who will be able to apply for funding on an application basis.

As well as whisky, GlenWyvis also produce a range of gins including; premium, spiced, cask matured expressions and new make spirit, too.
