Table Talk: Do we really know what we’re eating and drinking?
ByThe Food and Drink Team
In this week’s vodcast the team debate whether we need to pay more attention to food labels when it comes to choosing what we put in our shopping trolleys.
All too often we can be drawn to products in the supermarket because the labels give the impression they’re healthy, nutritious options when sometimes they’re quite the opposite.
There’s the yoghurts that are labelled as high in calcium and protein, but fail to tell you they’re also high in sugar unless you check the ingredients on the back. Then there’s the energy drinks that are so high in caffeine they can cause heart problems if consumed in large enough amounts, as well as behavioural issues in kids.
On top of that we learned this week that sugar syrup may be being added to some honeys in the UK without any indication on the labelling.
So should we be looking more closely at what we’re eating and drinking? That’s the topic of debate in the latest Table Talk vodcast from the Food and Drink team.
