An industrial estate doesn’t seem like the first natural home for a drinks brand, but that’s exactly where you’ll find Elgin’s Avva Scottish Gin.

Nestled on Chanonry Road North, Jill Brown has made a home for her gin which she launched in October 2016.

Since then the entrepreneur has been adding to her spirits collection, starting the business off with a range of liqueurs before diversifying into gin.

Jill’s copper still, Jessie-Jean, is named after her her two grandmothers and was the first gin still to be crafted in Scotland.

Jill Brown with her mum Sheena Brown who she works on a part-time basis in production and provides event support.

Featuring 11 botanicals, some of which Jill sources locally in the Highlands and Speyside, Avva Scottish Gin sits is a London Dry style of gin and sits at 43% ABV. Botanicals including mint, rowan, dandelion, nettled and red clover are used, and the gin is

Other products created by Jill include a pink gin, cask finish gin, her colour-changing blink gin and a gin ages in a Heaven Hill Bourbon cask. She also has a range of flavours of liqueurs from raspberry, rhubarb, limoncello, blackcurrant, strawberry and a coffee liqueur to try, too.

The gin still was the first Scottish gin still to be made in Scotland.

The artisan small-batch products are distilled, infused and bottled by hand on-site and Jill offers gin tours giving those interested in trying the gin and finding out more about it the opportunity to do so.

Looking to the future she is hopeful to be in her new gin distillery and visitor centre by the end of the year at Elgin Business Park at Moss of Barmuckity. This move will allow her to host multiple tours at once, increase capacity and offer a unique space for individuals to catch up over a gin.

This is Jill Brown’s Avva Scottish Gin story…
