A leading international line-up of music stars are set to appear at next week’s Belladrum Tartan Heart Music Festival.
But in-between catching Nile Rodgers, Van Morrison and Emile Sande on stage, what can festival-goers expect to eat at the Highland extravaganza?
We spoke to organisers to get the low-down on the tastiest treats available at the Bella blow-out, which will run from 28 to 30 July in a field near Beauly.
And – unlike at many festivals – all of the food trucks and stalls at Belladrum have been hand-picked by the event runners themselves to ensure the widest and most varied selection possible.
So grab your tent, and get on down to the foodiest music festival in the country.
The inaugural Vegan Quarter that will make everyone’s mouths water
For the first time in its 18-year history, the music Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival will play host to an all-vegan food area stuffed with the best local and Scottish non-meat and non-dairy vendors around.
The Vegan Quarter is a great place to start your Belladrum food adventure.
Everything from pizzas to ice cream will be on offer, with Belladrum head organiser Lesley Strang saying the quarter will appeal to a wide range of visitors.
“I’m hoping that it’ll be something that everyone will see,” Lesley says. “It’ll hopefully open people’s minds as they think to themselves: ‘I’m not vegan, but you know, that sounds really lovely. I’m gonna try that.’”
Food in the Vegan Quarter includes:
- Cafe-style food from Inverness stalwart Whisk Away
- Coffees from local favourite Bothy Blend
- Pizza from Belladrum festival’s very own Auld Smokey Pizza, just returned from the Ukrainian border
- Vegan veterans The Glasvegan will travel up from Glasgow with their breakfasts and other treats
- Mauritian specialists Zepice are bringing their spicy specials
- Baked goodies and maybe even a buttery from the Vegan Bay Baker
- Chocolate ice cream from Prissy Queen of Desserts
Where else can you eat at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival?
If you are after something with meat in, then Belladrum has you catered for.
First stop could be Highland Hog Roasts, a family-run catering business that serves up delicious free-range hog roast sandwiches and more.
Argyll is represented by a number of vendors sharing a marquee including Lucy Ardfern’s Café & Bakery, Shellfield Farm, Churchill Venison, Real Mackay Stovies and Coast Coffee.
And if it’s a meat-feast pizza you are after then check out Tin Van Pizza and its freshly-made artisan pies.
Carters Traditional Fish & Chips bring a festival favourite to the event while The Redshank offers a selection of top-quality Highland seafood dishes.
But if you are willing to spend the time, Lesley suggests seeking out some of the quieter corners of the festival to discover a few gems.
“We’ve got lots of independent, smaller food producers that we tuck away in little corners that will take perhaps 10 minutes longer but will make you a fantastic pasta product or a great pizza,” she says.
