Greens of Fraserburgh: Here’s what I thought of my £3.50 Too Good To Go bag that included 8 loaves of bread

Greens of Fraserburgh: Too Good To Go.
Greens of Fraserburgh: Too Good To Go.

Securing a Too Good To Go bag from Greens of Fraserburgh was a late-night, spur-of-the-moment decision.

My boyfriend and I were a tad peckish, fancied a drive, and had no alternative plans. I had also never sampled a mystery bag from a business located near the town.

It was the McDonald’s drive-thru, located on Fraserburgh’s Watermill Road, that piqued the interest of my passenger above all. For me, my thoughts were firmly on Too Good To Go.

What do they sell?

The pick-up time was between 9.30pm and 10pm – a great deal later than those I have reserved in the past. But with Greens of Fraserburgh being a convenience store, I understood.

Situated on Buchan Road, there was everything from freshly-baked goods and meats to spirits, confectionary, and preserves.

The names of several local businesses were spotted on the shelves, too, including Mackie’s, JG Ross, and Six Degrees North.

For those of you that don’t reside in Fraserburgh there is also a Greens of Ellon, Greens of Inverurie, and Greens of Peterhead.

We were handed a pair of jam-packed carrier bags after informing a member of the team what we were there to collect.

Suddenly, the McDonald’s drive-thru was a distant memory.

What I got my hands on…

Impatiently, we unbagged everything inside my car. It was late, so it’s not like we would have been sampling anything that evening, after all.

Our eyes were drawn to the contents and simultaneously queried each other about what was inside our separate goodie bags.

“Bread, bread, bread. Oh, and more bread,” we both said.

This was a common theme, to say the least. There were eight loaves in total. The pair of us laughed as we hadn’t the faintest idea about what to do with them all.

There were three different brands – Warburtons, Co-op, and JG Ross – within our bag.

The majority were white loaves in a variety of sizes – nothing we hadn’t seen before. However, there was also a Warburtons Fruit Loaf with Orange in the mix. This was something I would never have thought of putting on my shopping list but I was intrigued to try it.

Speaking of bread – and Warburtons – a pack of six soft sliced white rolls was also included in our haul.

I dare say our freezer had reached its full capacity on our arrival home.

There was also a juice bottle and a fine piece by Fisher & Donaldson – a Royal Warrant-holding fifth-generation family bakery based in Cupar – inside one of the bags.

The drink was a mango, passion fruit, and apple Innocent smoothie. It was thick and sweet with a slightly bitter taste, making for a pleasant balance.

As for the treat, after some research, I discovered it was a lemon swish home bake comprising two circular slices of melt-in-the-mouth shortbread, sandwiching a light cream and topped with tangy lemon icing.

I was, unfortunately, unable to find the price of the baked good.

General prices of the items:

  • Innocent Smoothie Mangoes Passion Fruits & Apples: £3.79
  • Warburtons Toastie Sliced White Bread: £1.49
  • Warburtons Farmhouse White Bread x2: £3.58 (£1.79 each)
  • Warburtons Soft Sliced White Rolls: £1.25
  • Co-op Bakery Farmhouse White: £1.09
  • Warburtons Fruit Loaf with Orange: £1.65
  • JG Ross Large Farmhouse: £2.29
  • JG Ross Small Farmhouse: £1.49

Total cost: £16.63

Total savings: £13.13

Verdict

My Too Good To Go bag from Greens of Fraserburgh was a strange one.

Don’t get me wrong, it was an absolute steal – and a few of my neighbours were left fairly satisfied after being gifted some free loaves. However, variety is the spice of life.

I did appreciate the home bake and the fruit loaf. And, after all, the bread provided was of good quality.
