After taking over the reins at the Falls of Feugh Restaurant and Function Suite in November 2013, award-winning chef John Chomba has now opened up a new bistro on Banchory’s High Street.

Formerly Franco’s, adjoining the Stag Hotel, the doors were opened by Mr Chomba and his team last September and they are now building up a regular clientele. Diners can expect to enjoy menus containing good, wholesome food, including haddock and chips, steak pie, scampi, chicken fillets and sirloin steak.

Situated in the centre of Banchory, the Stag Bistro is the perfect location to enjoy a meal out with family and friends. Originally, the restaurant opened only in the evenings, but, as of this month, they are also serving lunches from 11.30am to 2.30pm, with a wide selection of traditional dishes available, such as the mouthwatering moules mariniere, and chicken and onion pie.

Evening meals are served from 5pm to 9pm, such as the delectably slow-braised lamb shank and Cajun-spiced Shetland salmon. And to wash it down, diners can peruse from a wide selection of excellent wines from all over the world.

And for early diners, the early bird menu offers a wonderful variety of two and three-course meal deals. So, from weekday lunches to a fantastic evening menu, there’s something to tickle everyone’s tastebuds.

Formerly head chef at Raemoir House Hotel, Mr Chomba has a number of impressive accolades under his belt – including once securing the title Grampian Chef of the Year and also becoming a semi-finalist of the Scottish Chef of the Year.

Talking about his motivation to establish the bistro, Mr Chomba said he was attracted to the opportunity to run his own business in a wonderful location. Additionally, the chance to then be able to offer a completely different product at the bistro was a big attraction. Above all, he aims for customers to experience friendly service and good food in a cosy, relaxed setting.

Mr Chomba said: “I have devised menus which provide good, wholesome and traditional food at prices to suit all budgets with something for everyone to enjoy.”
