Fine food and rich experiences are on offer at Loch Fyne, writes Susan Welsh
There are two things which may have families flocking to the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and Restaurant in Argyll.
The first being that it has announced that children will eat free all year round. The second, that it has introduced an educational corner where children can learn about seafood, hold shellfish and get their picture taken with a lobster.
The restaurant, which nests on the tranquil shores of Loch Fyne, is home to world-famous oysters and the resident chefs have expertly created a diverse children’s menu which aims to provide nutritious and balanced meals that are appealing and fun.
Meanwhile, the educational corner teaches where their food comes from and how it reaches their plate. They can also hold a lobster and have their picture taken, which will then be proudly displayed on the walls of the restaurant.
Head chef Jamie Nicholson said: “Having a son myself inspired me to create the children’s menu and I’ve had fun doing so. The menu is healthy and remains true to the ethos of the restaurant, whilst providing parents with great, reliable options for their children.
“The menu itself is interactive and children are able to enjoy colouring in the various sea creatures that feature.”
Alastair Begg, retail development manager at Loch Fyne said: “We want to ensure that we are providing a dining experience that will get people away from the city and encourage them to make the journey to the restaurant.
“There’s so much to explore on our doorstep and we’re lucky to be located in such a picturesque area where nature is rife and history is rich”.
The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and Restaurant has long been considered a pioneer of the Scottish food and drink story. The company started farming oysters in Loch Fyne in the 1970s and selling directly to the public in a nearby lay-by. This year it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The annual Loch Fyne Food Faire takes place on May 16-17 and is one of the main events in Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink.
The programme will include new workshops covering bread making and cake decorating, a craft fair, children’s entertainment, live music from The Barrow Band and plenty of opportunities to learn more about oysters and seafood.
The food fair is located next to the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar near Cairndow and admission is free.
