Siberia Bar & Hotel is arguably one of the busiest venues in Aberdeen on May Day year-on-year. And it’s 2023 celebrations were of no exception.

Hundreds of revellers stepped through its doors yesterday on Belmont Street to take advantage of its superb offers and entertainment.

Spread across three stages throughout the bar, there was music from a host of impressive local and UK DJ talent including Summer Friends – HomeAlone and Martin 2 Smoove – All Night Passion and Jungle Nation.

The celebrations took place from noon to midnight. With a capacity of 550, the bar was generally full for the majority of the day.

May Day Aberdeen: ‘People make it the highlight of their year’

Scott Anderson, business development manager at Siberia Bar & Hotel, said they had a full crew in force throughout the day to ensure partygoers were well catered to.

Scott is also known as popular Aberdeen DJ HomeAlone.

He added: “This is the one day of the year where holiday requests are banned.

“We split the team so half got the early shift and the other half were on the late, meaning there was 10 to 15 staff on at all times from open until close.”

Scott went on to describe the venue’s May Day 2022 celebrations as “incredible”.

“It was great seeing everyone [last year] back in the mood to party after such a difficult few years but this year, I think, was a further step up on that,” he added.

“We’re pretty well known as one of the main places to be on the day.

“For years we have put in a huge amount of work to create a big atmosphere and ‘be the party’. And the feedback has always been overwhelmingly positive.”

Siberia was rated the number one venue for nightlife in Aberdeen in 2023 on TripAdvisor.

Scott said: “To me, it [May Day] signals the start of spring/summer. People make it the highlight of their year and fully invest into it as a day.

“It gives such a buzz to the city and that energy is enough to make people want to return.

“I love the atmosphere! We all put in so much hard work throughout the weeks and months leading up to it so it was great to see everyone enjoying it and all the work paying off.”
