Men in a relationship may want to think twice about choosing a football game or a few pints with the lads over their other half after a survey has revealed several women have a ‘backup man.’
A survey by OnePoll.com has found that 43% of women have a man to go running to should things with their current partner come to an end.
What’s most worrying to current boyfriends is that the backup is likely to be an ‘old friend’ who holds a flame for the woman, or an ex-boyfriend or colleague.
And adding salt the wounds, the backups are ready and waiting to take care of ‘unfinished business.’
A spokesman from the market research company said: “This could spark fear in men across the UK and be great news for women looking for that extra bit of love and care so that their attentions aren’t swayed.”
And this is just the tip of the iceberg…
More than four in 10 women said they got to know the backup man while they were with their partner and that they have stronger feelings for him than they do their boyfriend – for more figures have a look at our infographic.
The OnePoll spokesman added: ”The saying ‘the grass isn’t always greener’ clearly isn’t deterring women of today.
”They understand that anything can happen and are ensuring they have a solid back up plan should things go sour with their current man.
“With sites such as Facebook and Twitter, it’s easier than ever to stay in touch with an old flame. Men need to be aware of any ‘old friends’ that turn up out of the blue that’s for sure.”
But will these stats encourage men to be more attentive, or simply be more possessive of their other half?
