Times are changing for the Lawrie family who are preparing to leave behind their beautiful four-bedroom home on Kildrummy Road.
Number 20 has seen lots of memories made over the last 16 years, but Rona is excited to move forward now that both her boys have flown the nest.
The proud mum recently celebrated her youngest son’s graduation, and Robert is now off travelling in the Far East while his brother Andrew works as an actuary in Frankfurt.
Rona, who works at the international school in Aberdeen, is keen to downsize along with Wilson the cat but her eye for design means she has created a stylish home filled with trendy touches.
She plans to stay in the area and originally jumped at the chance to buy Number 20 when it first came on the market as a new build.
“I went to school and grew up in this area, and when I heard about the Walker Dam development 16 years ago I was delighted to be able to buy one and return to Craigiebuckler,” she said.
“My sons and I have been very happy here as it is a great place to live.”
On Rona’s own admission she loves a splash of colour, and each room in the house previously had a colour theme.
She has opted for a more neutral look in recent years, which is evident in the open-plan kitchen-diner and sun room.
This space is clearly the heart of the home, and the modern kitchen was fitted four years ago.
There is extensive storage and work unit space alongside an informal breakfast bar and there is plenty of room for a dining table.
You’ll be able to talk to guests as you cook or keep an eye on the kids, but Rona’s favourite feature is the sun room.
Set on an open-plan level with the kitchen, this is the perfect spot for breakfast and also gets the sun in the morning.
You’ll be keen to entertain guests in the elegant lounge however, which is accessed via double doors from the hallway.
The current theme of purple is enhanced by a feature wall, but there is of course scope to leave your own mark on this room.
There is a wall-mounted gas fire but there is also a full chimney in place, offering the opportunity to install a coal fire or wood burning stove for that extra cosy feel.
The dining room offers a further option for entertaining and could easily be turned into a playroom or family room, with patio doors leading to the rear garden.
All four bedrooms can be found upstairs and the master bedroom is particularly spacious, complete with an en-suite shower room.
The lovely family bathroom has been fitted with a three-piece suite.
Rona is a keen gardener and the rear garden has been created with entertaining in mind.
There is a large decking area, perfect for al fresco dining, and the garden is framed by well-tended borders.
You need not worry about maintenance as the area has mostly been laid to lawn, although this provides a blank canvas if you’re of the green fingered persuasion.
To the front of Number 20 is a large driveway and garage.
“We’ve found it the perfect safe location for family life,” said Rona. “It’s within walking distance of the city centre and Hazlehead park and it’s on two bus routes.
“Plus there is a convenience shop open till midnight and church on the doorstep, and even a friendly hostelry 10 minutes away.
“I will of course very much miss being in the middle of such a lovely community and will particularly miss my immediate neighbours who have been great friends.
“A big house like this needs continual attention to keep it in tip-top condition and that is what I have done while I have lived here.
“I’m ready to start a new chapter now but hope another family can come along and enjoy it.”
Offers should be made in the region of more than £530,000.
