If you’ve ever dreamed about building your own home, but wanted to find the perfect plot, then you may be in luck.
Strutt and Parker has launched the sale of seven plots of land, each with building consent, on the remote and scenic Morvern peninsula on the west coast of Scotland.
Described by the chief planner for the Scottish Government as “possibly the most exciting rural development in Scotland”, Achabeag is a new settlement of 20 houses in probably one of the finest locations for new housing in Scotland.
Set 100ft above the Sound of Mull, the site has exceptional views – looking west across to the Isle of Mull, south-east to the Firth of Lorne, sweeping from the sea-cliffs of Ardtornish, across the ancient Ardtornish Castle, to the Stevenson lighthouse off the Isle of Lismore and to Duart Castle on the coast of Mull.
The plots range in size from 1,400 to 4,200 square metres and are priced from £92,500 to £165,000, and each will have substantial gardens and face the coastline. These plots comprise the third phase of the overall Achabeag development by the Ardtornish Estate.
A condition of planning consent is that the houses have a consistent theme and draw from a pattern book, using a blend of timber frames, masonry and a sustainable interpretation of Scottish traditional building.
The developers, Ardtornish Estate, encourage buyers to use site architects, Roderick James and local building contractor MacDonald Joinery.
Mr James said: “Although this is a development, each house will be individually designed and built to a detailed personal brief to the purchaser.
“The emerging designs are sensitive, unusual, exciting and incorporate as many sustainable elements as their budget can afford”.
Hugh Raven of Ardtornish Estate said: “Phase three contains the absolutely prime sites – with direct access to the Sound of Mull, one of Scotland’s most scenic and important sea lanes.
“We’re hoping to attract permanent residents to Morvern – the Achabeag development has brought four new families to live here already on these exceptional sites”.
