The A93 is one of the most interesting roads to drive along in the north-east – thanks to the places it meanders through.
From Aberdeen through to Braemar, you are never stuck for a place to stop and have a rest surrounded by lovely views.
One of these many picturesque places is the village of Drumoak, which straddles the road and lies midway between Crathes and Culter.
The village has undergone several stages of expansion in the last 25 years and is being significantly enlarged again.
There is a village shop, post office, church and primary school, while secondary schooling is available at Banchory Academy.
It is home to the Scottish SPCA’s rehoming centre and Drum Castle, along with many gorgeous properties.
Among them is this gorgeous property, Westhill Cottage, situated just two miles from the village.
The property was built by Aberdeen architect John McMillan in 1938 as a country residence for himself, and it was extended in 1989 and again in 1992.
The very attractive white harled building is ideal for family living with spacious, flexible accommodation in good order throughout.
With four good-sized bedrooms and four equally spacious reception rooms, it is perfect for a growing family, allowing them to have their own space without being too big and remaining cosy and welcoming.
There are many rooms of note in this beautiful home but my favourite has to be the conservatory. It is a bright and airy room where you can enjoy the breathtaking grounds that surround the house.
It is a great area for enjoying the weather in all seasons and gives the family extra space to spend time in.
Other highlights include the sitting room – another room which features large windows and is flooded with light – the rustic kitchen and the study, which leads to a veranda area, great for relaxing after a hard day’s work.
Westhill Cottage, which is on the market at offers over £760,000, is a haven of peace and tranquillity at the end of a long drive. It sits in almost five acres of land and is surrounded by stunning landscaped grounds which include a colourful, mature garden, a bluebell woodland and paddock – perfect for those with equestrian interests.
