Finding your dream coastal home in the north of Scotland

Post Thumbnail

Scotland is home to some of the most magnificent coastlines around, the west coast in particular with spectacular inland and sea lochs, dotted with small islands set against a backdrop of dramatic mountain ranges.

The east coast is as spectacular with long sandy beaches, links golf courses, sheer cliffs and wide skies.

Figures show that those searching for their dream coastal home are willing to pay more – premiums between  13-25% were paid  by house hunters last year purchasing a property through Galbraith, for example.

The attraction of a water view, or better still direct access to water in a stunning and unspoilt area, is high on many house buyers’ wish list, be it a permanent residence or a staycation bolthole.

Here’s two Highland homes for sale with Galbraith, that would make perfect coastal pads:

26 Camuscross, Isle Ornsay, Isle of Skye
26 Camuscross, Skye

On the market at offers over £575,000, this is a substantial family home with two reception rooms and four bedrooms, as well as a self-contained one-bedroom apartment.

It was built on a decrofted site in 2012 and is highly energy efficient.

It has a ground source heat pump and zoned underfloor heating, while extensive use of glass maximises both the view and solar gain.

The house enjoys spectacular views over the Sound of Sleat as well as elevated views to the mainland.

There’s direct access to a sandy beach while the house is within easy reach of the Skye bridge and Mallaig ferry.

Taigh na Coille, Claddach Vallay, North Uist

This architect-designed house, built within walking distance of the beach, would make an ideal family home or holiday house.

The accommodation in the four-bedroom house is spread across two floors and includes a vast, cathedral-style window extending the full height of the property which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and sea.

These can also be enjoyed from the superb galleried landing.

Features of note include a very large open-plan living area with wood-burning stove and vaulted ceiling, while a downstairs bedroom and shower room give it the potential to offer B&B.

There’s extensive garden grounds extending to more than five acres; a large garage/workshop and stables.

It’s on the market at offers over £325,000
