One of the greatest examples of a grand Scottish country house can be found in Inverbervie, as Cheryl Livingstone finds out
I know myself that when I’ve been on holiday I have found myself at some point gawking at the beautiful architecture you find abroad.
But we should remember that we have equally impressive architecture right on our doorstep.
Take a trip to Inverbervie this weekend and you will find a great example of just how stunning our architecture can be – in the form of Hazelgrove, a magnificent family home in Montrose Road, Inverbervie.
The country house dates back to 1860 and many of its original features have been retained including fireplaces, impressive ceiling roses, plaster cornices, Lincrusta friezes and picture and dado railings.
As well as ensuring the house keeps its charm and character, the current owners have also ensured it is suitable for a modern-day family.
The addition of a stunning sun room has created an easy flow from the house to the gardens and a shaker-style dining kitchen and stunning main bathroom give the house a modern edge.
Rooms of note include the beautifully presented drawing room with a striking fireplace and mahogany surround, elegant dining room with a superb sandstone fireplace and exquisite chandelier and a fabulous master bedroom with a gorgeous marble fireplace and sensational views.
There are also a further four double bedrooms and a dressing room which could be converted into an office or single bedroom.
Another highlight of this house is the addition of the self-contained west wing, which features a living/dining room on open plan with the kitchen, a double bedroom and shower. It’s amazing to think that all this could be yours for offers over £625,000.
Also included in the price are the gorgeous gardens of more than an acre surrounding the house.
The front garden is fully enclosed by a stone wall and wrought-iron railings while at the back of the house, the extensive and enclosed gardens are secluded and ideal for outdoor entertaining. They have been thoughtfully designed and laid out on different levels. There is also a paved patio area leading out from the sun room and a hidden garden off to the side which has a large stone outhouse with power and light.
Hazelgrove is located in Inverbervie, a pleasant costal town just seven miles from Stonehaven and within commuting distance of Aberdeen. Primary schooling is available locally while secondary schooling is provided at Mackie Academy in Stonehaven or Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk.
