Rural living yet close to the city. Sounds like the perfect combination to me, writes Cheryl Livingstone
When I tell people I would love to get out of the city and move to the country, I always get the same response.
You’ll miss the buzz of the city, you’ll miss being close to amenities, you’ll feel isolated out there and so on.
So what I would need is a property that feeds my need to be in the country yet is close enough that I don’t miss out on what the city has to offer.
And it just so happens that a property that fits the bill has just come on the market. So, if like me you would love to live the country life, then take a trip to Banchory-Devenick this weekend and check out Hatton Cottage.
Don’t let the name of the village fool you – despite sharing part of its name with a Deeside town, it is actually just 2.5miles from Aberdeen and is a great location for commuting. The location is extremely convenient for the oil-related offices on the south side of the city at Altens and Badentoy.
As for amenities, fantastic shopping facilities are available at Portlethen and Bridge of Dee and of course you have all the city centre has to offer within driving distance. There are also a good range of schools in the area.
As for Hatton Cottage itself, it is currently on the market for offers over £375,000 – and when you hear what is included in the sale, you realise just what a bargain that is.
The four-bedroom detached cottage has a peaceful country location with each room giving different but equally impressive views of the surrounding area.
Set within just over half an acre of land, the cottage also boasts spacious gardens which are easily maintained and offer privacy from the large mature trees and hedging.
Inside the house is a bright and airy space thanks to all the natural light that is allowed to flow in.
Highlights for me include the spacious lounge with feature fireplace, stylish kitchen with ample storage space and work surfaces and the four bedrooms which are all a good size.
A luxury shower room is also bound to impress visitors – and with an additional bathroom on the first floor, this house is great for a growing family.
A large shed and log store are included in the sale and the gravel driveway offers off-road parking for several cars and access to the garage.
