Commercial space snapped up at Scotland’s largest new town

Scotland’s largest planned new town has seen strong demand for commercial accommodation, the developer says.

Chapelton, near Newtonhill in Aberdeenshire, will be an 8,000-home, £2billion town, with 40% green space and a focus on sustainable community living.

Elsick Development Company (EDC) recently found a tenant for the last commercial unit of the development’s first phase.

It has been snapped up by a local dental practice, Chapelton Dental Care (CDC), which will serve the 256 homes within the first phase of Chapelton, as well as those from further afield.

EDC director Lord Southesk said: “Our aim is to provide positive assets for a truly sustainable, modern community and the introduction of Chapelton Dental Care will be very advantageous to those living in and nearby Chapelton.

“The final commercial space has been snapped up extremely quickly and we are now beginning to see the first stages of the community develop.

“There will be more opportunities as the building programme moves towards the neighbourhood centre.”

CDC will be run in partnership with Portlethen Dental Care, whose principal dentist, Geoff Gordon, said: “A dental care facility is a necessity for any town and we are looking forward to delivering our services to the residents of Chapelton.”
