Fans of the great outdoors will be in their element with this superb six-bedroom countryside converted steading.
Enjoying a tranquil postcard-perfect location in Durno, a charming hamlet near Inverurie, Glen Orchy is part of a pretty courtyard development of three properties.
Home to Andrew Sutherland for the past 16 years, plus his son, daughter and Rannoch the dog, every inch of this sprawling home has been lovingly created to suit family life.
“I converted the steading in 2005,” says Andrew.
“It was a complete renovation from an agricultural steading so we lived in it from new.”
Open-plan dining kitchen
From the superb open-plan dining kitchen and formal lounge to the impressive master bedroom and outdoor barbecue area, Andrew says the house has been a labour of love.
But after a lifetime of happy memories, Andrew has reluctantly put his wonderful home on the market as he prepares for a new chapter.
“It’s time for a new place and venture,” says Andrew.
“I think the property would suit a family looking for space where they can work from home in a quiet rural yet central location close to town and schools.”
Tranquil location
Like something out of the BBC One property show Escape to the Country, this bucolic beauty of a home enjoys spectacular countryside views as far as the eye can see.
After drinking in the charming exterior and dramatic landscape, the idyllic feeling continues inside the handsome home.
Undoubtedly the beating heart of the home is the beautiful open-plan dining kitchen where everyone can gather in one place but have enough room to spread out.
Adding a cosy element to this space is the wood-burning stove while patio doors lead out to the terrace where there is a barbecue area.
Space for entertaining
Over the years, Andrew says the property has provided plenty of space for entertaining.
“The unique size of the rooms and the outdoor areas make it perfect for parties,” says Andrew.
“Glen Orchy is just a wonderful unique and spacious family home in a great location.”
And whether it’s a big Sunday roast dinner with all the family or a candlelit dinner for two, the relaxed dining area is the perfect setting for all occasions.
Cosy winter and summer retreat
At the other side of the property, there is a formal lounge where the picturesque views can be savoured from the comfort of the sofa.
This room is a warm retreat in winter as it has a wood burner.
During the summer, head out the patio doors and into the courtyard to soak up the sunshine.
Also on the ground floor is a spacious bedroom with a Jack and Jill shower room, study and a large utility room.
Garden and barbecue area
Upstairs, there is an impressive master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, separate shower and dressing room.
The second bedroom is also a very large space with a walk-in wardrobe and Jack and Jill shower room while the remaining bedrooms are all spacious doubles.
Completing this excellent family home is the beautiful garden where children can run around to their heart’s content while the adults cook lunch in the barbecue area.
Although sad to be leaving their amazing home, Andrew is content in the knowledge that it will make another family very happy.
“I think what will appeal most to people are the size of the rooms, the quiet country location and the beautiful countryside with facilities close by,” says Andrew.
Rural yet central location
Some of the nearby local amenities include a local primary school while older children are catered for at Oldmeldrum Academy.
Further amenities can be found seven miles away in Inverurie where there are shopping facilities in the town centre as well as a health centre, library and community centre.
Inverurie also has a wealth of highly regarded hotels and restaurants, three primary schools and a secondary school.
It’s worth noting that the local school’s buses pick up from the property.
Leisure pursuits are also well catered for with a swimming pool, sports centre and golf courses.
