The village of Plockton is regularly referred to as a “jewel of the Highlands”.
Within it there’s a gem of a house, one which viewers should have no problem finding as it’s been painted a pretty shade of pink.
The appropriately named Pink House enjoys a peaceful setting just along from the main pier in the popular west-coast village of Plockton, which was once a busy fishing village and is now a magnet for tourists, keen to soak up the fine views of Plockton Bay, Loch Carron and the Applecross peninsula, or walk its main street which is fringed with palm trees.
The village has been designated a National Trust for Scotland conservation village to preserve its heritage and has provided a picturesque background to many film and TV shows.
The Pink House, at number seven Cooper Street, and on the market at offers over £345,000, is a spacious and comfortable terraced cottage which enjoys sea views across Ard an Mhorair to Plockton Bay and the hills beyond. Given its location, it’s not surprising to learn that the owners of the cottage currently let it out to holidaymakers.
The accommodation comprises, on the ground floor, an entrance porch, sitting room and dining room, both of which have open fires; a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. On the first floor, there are three bedrooms, and a further attic/bunkroom which can be reached via a steep stairway.
The garden at The Pink House lies to the rear of the cottage and can be accessed from the sitting room and kitchen. It sits above the rocky foreshore and comprises a central lawn edged by colourful beds of herbaceous perennials, mature shrubs and spring-flowering bulbs. A stone path leads to a viewpoint at the bottom of the garden with stunning views across Ob an Duine to Loch Carron, dotted with small islands. A sheltered patio close to the cottage provides a sitting and barbecue area and there is a timber garden shed within the grounds.
Plockton has a small supermarket, a good range of hotels and restaurants, a railway station, and schooling up to secondary level as well as its well-known music academy. The property is the ideal base for the sailing and outdoor enthusiast with dinghy sailing and yacht moorings available locally and way-marked walks direct from the cottage. Plockton Small Boat Sailing Club organises a busy sailing programme, plus an annual Regatta each August.
