Ultrasonic-inspection firm Sonomatic is the latest occupier to sign up for premises at The Core business park in Aberdeen.
Sonomatic, which provides subsea services to customers in the oil and gas industry globally, is investing in the multi-disciplined facilities for its range of non-destructive testing (NTD) work.
Its new premises, comprising 10,000sq ft of office accommodation and a 14,000sq ft workshop with associated parking and yard space, will house radiography and hydro testing bays.
Construction is expected to start by November, with Warrington-based Sonomatic likely to relocate from its current Aberdeen Science and Energy Park site in April next year.
Tracy Anderson, rope access and inspection services division manager and UK business development manager, Sonomatic, said: “The location has been very carefully selected, with consideration given to our customers’ logistical requirements.
“We want to be situated in close proximity to our customers, to reduce the time taken to turnaround inspections and to ensure we meet environmental commitments.
“Another very important factor in the decision to move to The Core is the planned location of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR).
“In addition to serving customers in Aberdeen, we are hoping to meet customers’ requirements from all over Scotland by taking full advantage of the A90 (Aberdeen to Peterhead road) and the AWPR.
“We have ambitious plans for the business beyond NDT services so another reason for selecting The Core is the ability to extend our facility and services if need be.”
The Core is a 100-acre business park under development next to Murcar Links Golf Club in the Bridge of Don area.
Offering bespoke office, industrial, workshop, warehouse and leisure facilities, it is intended to become one of the most energy-efficient, low carbon business parks in the UK.
Nick Berry, partner at park investor Clearbell, said: “Despite the changing market in Aberdeen, we are seeing continued positive interest in The Core and are pleased to welcome Sonomatic as the latest occupier.”
Further plans for The Core includes the park’s first two speculative industrial units, extending to 39,000sq ft and 27,000sq ft, with service yards. Work on these is due to start next month.
Permission has also been secured for an additional two plots – one of which is for a 100,000sq ft unit made up of industrial and office accommodation, with a 2.5-acre service yard.
The other plot, spanning 2.14 acres, will comprise 20,000sq ft of warehousing, 6,000sq ft of office space and a 28,000sq ft service yard.
