A house by the beach is hard to pass up. Throw in a friendly batch of neighbours to the mix, and you have the perfect home. At least that’s how it went for Lee Lancaster.
Lee, 40, moved to 17 Mitchell Brae in Balmedie six years ago from Blackdog after the coastal town’s amenities reeled him in.
“It has the shop, the chipper, the pub, schools and the Post Office,” said Lee.
“Everything you need is here.”
Balmedie is about eight miles from the north of Aberdeen, making it an easy commute for those working in the city.
A rapidly growing town, one of the area’s many selling points is its proximity to the stunning beach.
From Lee’s home, which is on the market for offers over £300,000, Balmedie beach is a mile’s walk down a footpath which runs through the town’s housing developments.
“I’d frequently take a walk down and get an ice-cream – it’s a really nice scenic walk,” said Lee.
Lee, who is originally from London, is now looking to move overseas. And when he leaves, he said the thing he will miss most is the neighbours.
“Everyone’s really friendly and it’s still the original neighbours who moved in when I did six years ago.”
When he first bought the three-bedroom property, it was a new build, and the first house of the development.
It has a traditional exterior with a more contemporary look inside.
Over the years, Lee has put in a lot of work to make the home is own.
“I’ve put in a new bathroom, new bedroom suite and re-did the kitchen and living room.
“I didn’t utilise the space much when I first moved and there was a lot of dead space.
“So I sat down and worked out how to make the best use of the space the home had.”
At the heart of the home is the lounge which runs into the bright and airy conservatory.
The lounge is styled in neutral tones and is Lee’s favourite room in the home.
“It’s nice with the spotlights, colours and the surround sound system as we can listen to everything throughout the house, he said.”
The kitchen is decorated in contrasting shades of red and brown and features stylish and fitted cupboards and worktops. At the end of this room is family area which has ample space for a sofa or small dining table.
The three well-proportioned double bedrooms are upstairs and each has plenty of space for storage and freestanding furniture.
The master bedroom benefits from a recently refurbished en-suite and fitted wardrobes and drawers. The third bedroom is currently used as a study.
Also on this floor is the family sized bathroom with three-piece suite and towel shelves.
Both the front and back garden are low maintenance with the spilt level rear yard laid partly to decking. There is off-street parking to the front of the property.
Exploring the rest of the home’s location, Balmedie has several public play areas and an excellent primary school, making it an appealing place for a growing a family.
