The latest guise of Volkswagen’s Golf GTE is available to order now, at £3,420 less than the outgoing model.
The updated petrol-electric hybrid benefits from two trim levels – the entry-level version and GTE Advance – plus a host of new technologies.
It is powered by a 148bhp, 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and an electric motor rated at up to 101bhp (75kW), which, when working together, will combine to give a peak system power output of 201bhp.
The total range of the GTE is 514 miles, while the battery gives an all-electric range of 31 miles. The standard GTE emits 38g/km of CO2, and achieves a combined fuel economy of 166mpg, while the GTE Advance emits 40g/km of CO2 and makes 157mpg.
This impressive range does not come at the expense of power, though. The GTE can sprint to 60mph in 7.4 seconds and boasts a top speed of 138mph. Switching into GTE mode adds further power to the drive by combining the instant torque of the electric motor with the broad power of the turbocharged petrol engine.
The model also boasts three other modes – E-Mode, Battery Charge and Hybrid.
Technology-wise, both versions feature LED front and rear lights with sweeping indicators, Active Info Display, and Volkswagen Car-Net App–Connect functionality.
The GTE Advance adds 18-inch alloys, the updated Discover Navigation system, a winter pack including heated seats, tinted windows, a front centre armrest and exterior e-sound.
The standard GTE will cost from £30,635, with the GTE Advance weighing in at £32,135.
