Jaguar has announced that it will be introducing a four-cylinder version of its F-Type sports car.
Despite being the smallest powerplant on offer, the 2.0-litre unit is the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever fitted to Jaguar. It produces 296bhp and 295lb/ft of torque, good for a 0-60mph time of 5.4 seconds.
The acceleration figure matches that of the V6, though its maximum speed is down by 7mph.
Prices for the new F-Type four-cylinder start at £49,900, and deliveries are expected to commence this summer.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine also allows the F-Type to return a claimed 39.2mpg combined, and emit 163g/km of CO2
– the lowest of any F-Type.
Jaguar has also worked extensively on ensuring that the turbocharged engine still provides an invigorating soundtrack.
Its exhaust system has been tuned, while R-Dynamic models get a switchable active exhaust for a more raucous sound.
