German manufacturer Alpina has revealed the latest high-performance machine to come from its Bavarian headquarters – the XD3.
Based on BMW’s X3, Alpina has added its trademark mechanical and visual upgrades to bring a fresh offering in the performance SUV market.
Powering it is a reworked version of BMW’s 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, here delivering 328bhp and 516lb/ft of torque.
It’s paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and is capable of taking the XD3 from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 158mph.
The engine isn’t the only part to receive mechanical fettling, though. Power is sent to all four wheels through an Alpina-developed torque distribution system, which the manufacturer says “guarantees maximum traction, neutral driving dynamics and high levels of safety”, while the addition of a rear limited-slip differential and sports suspension aids cornering stability.
As for the look of the XD3, Alpina has added a distinctive body kit and 20in alloy wheels to the SUV to further distinguish it as one of its creations.
Full details of the Alpina XD3 will be revealed later this year.
