The big news on the Audi stand at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit was the unveiling of the all-new Q7.
The Q7 is largest SUV in Audi’s range although this latest models goes to great lengths to improve efficiency. Audi claims more than 300kg has been taken from its overall weight thanks to the use of aluminium and revised construction methods.
It’s also smaller than before, with a significant reduction in length and width although cabin space has been improved compared to the old car, according to Audi. The cabin also features a TFT instrument display, similar to that found on the new Audi TT.
Another clever feature is the option of rear-wheel steering, which improves manoeuvrability at low speed by turning in the opposite direction to the front wheels and better stability by turning the same way as the front wheels at speed.
UK sales are expected to begin this summer, with the 3.0-litre TDI diesel version likely to be the most popular.
