One of the star attractions at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit was the reveal of the production-ready Honda NSX supercar.
Some 25 years on from the debut of the original NSX, this latest version is packed with technology to deliver all the thrills and performance expected from a supercar but with far greater efficiency and comfort.
The key to the new NSX is the powertrain, which combines a twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine, a nine-speed dual clutch gearbox and a trio of electric motors; one for each wheel at the front and one at the rear sandwiched between the engine and gearbox. That gives the NSX supercar the ability to run in high efficiency modes, even purely on electric power, and provide instant response as well as impressive performance, with drive to all four wheels giving better stability.
Constructed from a mixture of aluminium and carbonfibre at a new dedicated facility in Ohio, first deliveries are expected at the end of 2015.
