The 2015 face-lifted F800R from BMW Motorrad is the much awaited update of this very popular model and now offers a more relaxed urban ride thanks to modifications to its gearing and new upside down front forks.
The F800R still offers immense fun on all types of road and still has the stamina and versatility to look the part.
Its engine has been slightly tweaked in this latest version increasing the power by 3bhp to 90bhp.
The strong, liquid-cooled eight-valve two-cylinder is particularly convincing because of its spontaneous response, its impressive torque and its low fuel consumption. A smooth six-speed gearbox complements this very flexible and powerful engine.
As you would expect from BMW, the latest F800R features high-quality workmanship, a strong chassis along with its impressive engine performance.
For this you would expect to pay a premium but the F800R starts at a relatively modest £7,595 but can be spec’d up to meet an individual’s requirements and it is only then that the package looks less than value for money.
Everything about this BMW’s performance is positive. Its impressive 90bhp parallel twin-cylinder engine delivers smooth power throughout the range.
With a claimed wet weight of just 202kg the F800R is unbelievably agile on all road surfaces both wet and dry. Its ability to perform on smooth tarmac and over rougher surfaces make it uniquely versatile as well as a very comfortable bike to ride.
Acceleration is brisk, if not neck-snapping. It can reach an estimated top speed of 140mph where conditions allow. It’s very controlled and stable on twisty B roads with powerful brakes assisted by ABS to keep the rider in total control.
BMW has also lowered the seat height by 10mm and moved the pegs down and forward making the F800R a more comfortable ride than its predecessor. Its only draw back is the engine vibration that increases as the revs rise which could become a bit irritating if you choose to use the F800R on a significant motorway journey.
The overall package combines balanced power and weight, excellent ground clearance, long spring travel, precise wheel guidance and sophisticated ergonomics, giving this bike excellent all-road riding as well as long-distance touring performance.
The 2015 F800R provides an excellent level of seat comfort for both rider and passenger, along with a high standard of safety features like ABS.
In addition, the extensive range of BMW accessories which includes such goodies as traction control and electronic suspension adjustment allows customers to fashion the bike to their own tastes.
It looks as though the high quality feel of this BMW will continue to find a steady stream of eager buyers with money to burn.
