Fans of V8 noise will rejoice at news that Mercedes-AMG is to build the latest C 63 as a convertible – with two huge power outputs.
A 4.0-litre V8, closely related to the unit in the AMG GT, puts out 469bhp in standard guise and a mighty 503bhp in the uprated C 63 S, along with a frankly rude 516lb/ft of torque.
Supercar performance is guaranteed, with a seven-speed automatic channelling the huge power through the rear wheels hard enough to record a 0-62mph sprint of 4.2 seconds for the standard C 63, and 4.1 for the S.
Top speed is limited to 155mph, but on the Autobahn the Mercedes is likely to reach that figure very quickly indeed.
The roof will fold at up to 31mph, but there’s a caveat in that the motion has to have been started below 3mph.
There will be a special Edition 1 model to mark the launch, with extra equipment and white paint only – although there are several shades to choose from.
Deliveries should start within months, with prices expected to start at between £65,000 and £70,000. Final details will be confirmed soon.
