An Aberdeen band will perform at one of Glasgow’s most famous venues after reaching the finals of a nationwide music competition.
Four-piece Bitterwood, who formed at the end of 2016, have beaten off more than 1,200 other groups and musicians from all across Scotland to claim their spot in the final 15 hopefuls of the Soundwaves contest.
The artists, who describe their music as post-hardcore spoken word, had to take on a number of challenges to get this far in the competition, including putting on live gigs and creating their own music videos.
They will take part in a live-face off against the other 14 finalists next month at the O2 Academy.
Bitterwood’s vocalist William Whyte, 20, said: “The best thing we could have hoped for when we entered this was a gig in Glasgow, but now we’re going to be playing at the O2 Academy, so we’re all amazed with how far we’ve come.”
“There’s a really big variety of different genres of musicians that are in the finals, but we’ll hopefully have an unique edge with our focus on spoken word.”
As well as working hard to reach the finals of the Soundwaves competition, the band has spent the last year making a name for themselves in the Aberdeen music scene, playing gigs at Venues such as Krakatoa, Musical Vision and more.
Mr Whyte added: “It’s been a real push to get all the way to the finals, so we can’t wait to play our best and hopefully win.”
