Chants of “Liam! Liam! Liam!” echoed around P&J Live last night as the north-east’s newest entertainment venue played host to its most “mad for it” crowd yet.
Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher took his latest tour to Aberdeen and delighted thousands of revellers with a set which mixed songs from his new solo albums with a smattering of hits from his glory days.
Despite rekindling many fond memories of the Mancunian indie legends with hits including Rock And Roll Star and Stand By Me – a particular singalong favourite – Gallagher didn’t take long to dash any hopes of a reunion.
One of the loudest cheers of the night came when he castigated brother Noel for derogatory comments he made about Scotland as he engaged in a spat with Glaswegian pop star Lewis Capaldi.
A huge roar erupted when it emerged that original Oasis member Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs had joined the rocker on stage for Morning Glory.
Gallagher then brought the mood down with a rueful rendition of Once, from his latest album Why Me? Why Not.
Oasis rarities such as Gas Panic, from Standing On The Shoulders of Giants, were a treat for the more hardened fans in attendance.
However, any new venue can expect some teething problems and Aberdeen’s new building proved no exception – as hundreds of people were left queuing for refreshments for as long as an hour before the show began.
Tthis is hopefully something that can be easily resolved and if artists the calibre of Liam Gallagher continue to play there then I’m sure crowds will continue to flock to the arena.
And as the night ended with a bonus repeat performance of the opening Rock And Roll Star – along with cherished favourites such as Champagne Supernova and Cigarettes And Alcohol – nobody could have any gripes with his outstanding performance.
Thankyou Aberdeen for putting up with my moody chops you were biblical as always stay young LG x
