Aberdeenshire mum: ‘Council workers threw my cat in a bin lorry’

A Stonehaven woman has expressed her devastation after employees of Aberdeenshire Council threw her dead cat into a waste disposal lorry.
Debbie Findlay, had let her cat, George, outside and begun to think he was missing after he failed to return.
But the young mum was horrified to hear from a neighbour who had spotted council refuse workers lobbing her dead cat by the tail into the back of their vehicle along with the neighbourhood rubbish.
After contacting the council, Debbie says the refuse workers claimed to have found the animal, dead at the roadside and had removed it so School children wouldn’t be distressed.
Debbie’s daughters, Lori (6) and Shannah (12) overheard the neighbour informing their mother of their beloved Havana Brown cat’s demise.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire council said: “Although their is no legal obligation, normal practice is to remove any dead domestic animal and arrange to have it scanned for a chip identifying the owner but on this occasion the worker disposed of it immediately.”
