Talk of the Town is Society’s round-up of some of the best north-east food and drink deals, specials and hotspots on offer every week. Whether you’re relishing veganuary or craving a sweet treat, the north-east has plenty of popular food and drinks offers around right now.
Travancore
Holburn Street in Aberdeen has recently welcomed a new Indian restaurant that’s proved a popular hit with locals. Travancore is all about southern Indian cuisine. Its dishes originate from Kerala; a southern Indian state which is said to have some of the healthiest food in India. Try its masala dosa (Indian crepe) or Travancore fish curry for a food experience to remember.
The Wig
Castle Street in Aberdeen in home to The Wig, a friendly bar full of laughter and tasty drinks. As well as old favourites on draught, gins, rums and whiskies are in abundance at the city centre bar. But keep an eye out for its cocktail deals: two cocktails and a pizza for £10 has been a popular hit. Grab it while you can.
Dee-licious
If you’re stopping by Banchory this weekend, pop your head into Dee-licious café on the town’s high street. Dee-licious likes to get especially creative with its home bakes. Cookie Monster cupcakes and sumptuous Oreo traybakes are just a few of its popular highlights. But with the winter cold setting in, soups, paninis and comforting hot drinks are also aplenty.
Tor Na Coille Hotel
For those keen on making their weekend extra memorable, the Tor Na Coille Hotel is well worth a look-in. Perched by the River Dee on the outskirts of Banchory, the four-star hotel has lovely rooms for overnight stays as well as excellent food from its restaurant. Dry January and veganuary can be rounded off in style here with vegan dishes and alcohol-free beers available.
Foodstory Hut
As if Foodstory’s cafe in Aberdeen’s Thistle Street wasn’t already hugely popular, its food hut at Aberdeen beach promenade is adding a fresh chapter to the business’s success story. As well as comforting smiles and picturesque sea views, Foodstory Hut offers up moreish cinnamon buns, coffees and sourdough toasties which sound too good to resist. Brighten up your January beach walk!
