On the hunt for somewhere that has it all on your next break away? Alicante, located on Spain’s sunny Costa Blanca, is ideal.

Famous for its fantastic culture, authentic cuisine and blissful beaches, Alicante is the place to be for a relaxing retreat during the summer months.

There’s a wealth of accommodation options to choose from within the city, meaning you can start your Alicante adventure as soon as you arrive. Many hotels offer outdoor swimming pools too, so you can cool off after a busy day of sightseeing.

If you’re looking for an adventurous way to see the city in an afternoon, why not try an exciting Segway tour? Alternatively, Alicante’s tram system makes for easy travelling from A to B.

In terms of attractions and landmarks, Alicante is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and enviable coastal walks. Discover the interesting Archaeological Museum of Alicante in an afternoon or scale the heights of the impressive Santa Barbara Castle, which sits atop Mount Benacantil. There’s also a plethora of fascinating art museums to marvel at, so culture vultures will be in their element.

Highlights include the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art and the Gravina Museum of Fine Art.

One of Alicante’s main features is the bustling Explanada de Espana. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this area for a true taste of Spain. Expect street entertainers, delicious food, eclectic bars and independent shops – a perfect way to while away a sunny afternoon under the shade of the palm trees.

We also recommend checking out the iconic Port of Alicante. This popular seaport area of Alicante has historically been used solely for passenger and commercial traffic, yet in recent years it has enjoyed development to become the thriving tourist destination that it is today. Galleon SantĂsima Trinidad is a must-see; an impressive Spanish ship that tourists can look round at their leisure. With such stunning views from the top of the ship, it’s also the perfect selfie spot.

Wanting to enjoy Alicante at a more relaxed pace? There are plenty of white sandy beaches to sunbathe on. Many of them have convenient market stalls nearby for snacks and drinks – some even have bartenders on the beach, so you don’t need to move an inch.

If you fancy a spot of retail therapy, there’s a wealth of shopping opportunities within the city centre. From local street traders selling unique gifts and jewellery to designer favourites for those little holiday luxuries, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Another great option for a more relaxed trip is a visit to the Basilica of Santa Maria. As the oldest active church in the area, it’s certainly worth a visit. Expect Valencian architecture and Gothic adornments – and don’t forget your camera.

For a day trip with a difference, travel to the fascinating island of Tabarca. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, Tabarca is the smallest permanently inhabited islet in Spain, with just 68 people who call it home. It is well-known for its marine reserve and enjoyable boat trips to and from mainland Alicante.

Alternatively, venture out to see the impressive Caves of the Canelobre. As one of the main attractions of the entire province of Alicante, it’s certainly bound to be a highlight of your trip. Access the caves via a 45-metre tunnel and marvel at the splendid variation of forms, including stalactites, stalagmites and columns.

For the more adventurous, the Busot area offers trekking, mountain biking and climbing. If you have time to spare, Busot is also home to Busot Castle and the Tower of Cabrafish, both of which are must-dos for any history enthusiast.

Feeling peckish? Alicante is renowned for its tasty range of local delicacies.

Tuck into fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant, sample delicious paella from one of the street stalls and be sure to indulge in some crispy Spanish churros with melted chocolate during the evening.
