Setting sail for St Kilda and beyond

Having provided small ship cruises in Argyll and the Inner Hebrides for 10 years, The Majestic Line has now set its sights on trips to the Outer Hebrides and St Kilda. The company, which transformed former fishing vessels into mini-cruise vessels, will operate a new specialised vessel, The Glen Etive, to ensure guests see the islands in comfort and style.

The Glen Etive, which will carry 12 guests and four crew, is currently under construction in Ardmaleish Boat Yard on the Isle of Bute and will be ready for cruising to the Outer Hebrides in April 2016. It will offer a slightly higher level of luxury than the current vessels, the Glen Tarsan and Glen Massan, because it will be at sea for longer and cruising in more open waters. All Majestic Line cabins are en suite, the only small boat cruising company operating on the west coast of Scotland to offer this level of privacy.

Andy Thoms, a partner in The Majestic Line and responsible for designing the new vessel and devising the itineraries, said: “To visit the Outer Hebrides from the sea is a stunning experience. The area is very remote and covers long distances, so the challenge is to create itineraries which will introduce guests to the fascinating diversity of the islands in terms of scenery, wildlife and the communities that live there.

“We have created four new 10-night cruises, each of which will explore a selection of Hebridean Islands, while providing all the comfort of a floating guest house.” As these cruise ships are smaller, they have access to coastlines and anchorages denied to larger vessels, giving an exclusive insight into the landscape and life of these islands. Itineraries are flexible allowing guests to influence the choice of stopovers. There’s a choice of four cruises available, currently at an introductory offer of £4,050 per person, a saving of £450.
