If you’re thinking about an Italian adventure this year then look no further than the spellbinding Neapolitan Riviera.
This stunning pocket of Italy will take your breath away.
Arguably Italy’s most scenic and spectacular stretch of coastline, filled with forest-clad cliffs and lemon groves set high above sparkling waters.
This region has a dramatic atmosphere and has been the setting for many a romantic escapade.
The area offers spectacular views, glorious weather and mouth-watering cuisine.
An ideal base for a Neapolitan holiday is Sorrento, which has become popular with British tourists over the years, yet it still oozes Italian charm and offers an exciting blend of traditional life and a cosmopolitan vibe on its pretty streets.
A perfect spot for lazy days in the sun, gazing at the jaw dropping scenery, Sorrento is also ideally placed for exploring the historical treasures of the Campania region.
That is, of course, if we can entice you off your deck chair!
Sorrento really packs a punch when it comes to exciting day trips.
Local transport services will whisk you away to dreamy places such as Positano, Amalfi and the famous island of Capri.
Just 5km from the mainland in the Bay of Naples, visitors can make the crossing to Capri by ferry.
The Gods were certainly shining on this little corner of the world and Capri is just blessed with rich flora and fauna that decorates the natural beauty of the island.
Day-trippers can explore the designer boutiques, quaint cafes and bars whilst soaking up the serene atmosphere of this delightful place.
Capri simply exudes glamour and sophistication and is unmissable if you’re on holiday in Sorrento.
Perched high on dramatic cliffs, Sorrento is such a beautiful spot to recharge your batteries.
What struck me most was the kaleidoscope of colour on display. Houses and buildings painted in a rainbow of pretty shades – pastel pink, deep ochre and rich terracotta complimenting the colourful ceramic tiles.
The boats in the marina provide a dazzling backdrop to the azure blue sky, which, as the sun sets turns to a fiery blood orange, tinged with dashes of purple.
I think that if something magical were going to happen in your life, I’d bet on it happening here.
As night falls, do as the locals do and head out for an evening stroll (passeggiata) to the town’s main square, Piazzo Tasso.
This lively thoroughfare really comes alive after dark.
From the square, you will find a labyrinth of quaint narrow streets and alleyways packed with eateries and souvenir shops and if you fancy an elegant dinner you can dine in one of the waterside restaurants in Marina Grande.
The walk down to Marina Grande is enjoyable, taking in flower-filled lanes and ancient steps and passageways leading to the harbour.
Don’t worry, for those with waking difficulties, there’s a handy bus service that leaves from the town centre.
Whether you choose to simply soak up the sun and relax or whether you choose to discover the rich history of southern Italy you won’t be disappointed and as the famous song goes, you may find you Return To Sorrento, year after year…
The magic of Sorrento will definitely leave you under her spell.
