Summer fun on the Costa del Sol

Post Thumbnail

A haven for British holidaymakers for years, it seems our love affair with Spain is still going strong.

Every summer, thousands of us flock to the Spanish coastal resorts in search of well-earned sun, sea, sand, and whatever else takes our fancy.

However, there’s so much more to discover on a sunshine fortnight to the Costas, especially on the sun-drenched southern coast of the Andalusian province, the Costa del Sol.

Miles of golden sands stretch along this dazzling coastline which is peppered with chic resorts, bustling towns and traditional whitewashed villages with their narrow cobbled streets.

Holidaymakers to the Costa del Sol are also well placed for exploring a bit more of the area and will certainly get much more out of their holiday.

Although, if lazing on the beach with a cool beer in your hand for a fortnight is all you want to do, that’s no problem, carry on, but if you feel like getting off the sun lounger and enjoying what the sizzling Costa del Sol has to offer, look no further.

Here are some of our top picks for great days out this summer :

1. Malaga City

Malaga City

Dubbed the capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga boasts two eighth-century citadels, the Alacazaba and the Gibralfaro, which dominate the city skyline. A combined ticket will gain you entry to both, and inside you can explore the castle and battlements, and enjoy stunning views over the whole city.  Malaga has some fabulous shopping as well as quirky museums and a must see is the Picasso Museum, devoted to one of the world’s most celebrated artists, Pueblo Picasso who was born in Malaga in 1881.

2. Tivoli World, Benalmadena

Tivoli World

Enjoy a fantastic day in an exhilarating place for all the family. Satisfy your appetite between bars and themed restaurants, while enjoying the magnificent ambience of the park. The Costa del Sol’s theme park is packed with tropical gardens, plazas, fountains, exciting rides, restaurants and much more. In high season, take in a Flamenco show here. Tivoli World is the perfect family day trip.

3. The City of Cordoba

Plaza de las Tendillas, Cordoba

Discover the Andalusian charm of Cordoba on a day trip from Costa del Sol. The intriguing ancient city of Cordoba was the capital of Moorish Spain for over three centuries.

4. Puerto Banus Marina

Puerto Banus Marina

Enjoy some people watching and celebrity potting in this exclusive, elegant marina. There are plenty of designer boutiques and atmospheric bars and restaurants to while away the day. The port really comes to life in the evenings when the beautiful people come out to play.

5. Visit Gibraltar

Gibraltar

Cross the border from Spain into British territory, where you can see British policemen, spend British money and enjoy fabulous duty free shopping.  If you don’t mind heights, take a tour to the top of the famous Rock of Gibraltar.
