A stunning, world-renowned passenger ship has this morning docked at Aberdeen harbour.
The Sea Cloud II, a five-star Maltese cruiser, arrived in north-east waters at about 6.25am today after travelling from Kirkwall, Orkney.
The ship, which has travelled all over the world since first being commissioned more than ten years ago, regularly attracts crowds of admirers when it reaches dry land.
Operated by Sea Cloud Cruises GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, the ship is sister to historic vessel Sea Cloud, which served as the US Armed Force’s first racially integrated warship since the American Civil War, while on operations during World War II.
In 2011, the Sea Cloud underwent extensive renovations at the MWB-Werft, Bremerhaven.
Its sister ship, the Sea Cloud II, currently sails in Europe and the Caribbean as part of a fleet of sail cruise ships operated by the company.
In its most recent round of European trips, the Sea Cloud II has travelled extensively throughout the continent.
Setting out from Klaipeda, Lithuania, on July 10, the cruiser arrived in Copenhagen on July 12 before moving on to Travemunde, Germany, the next day.
On July 14, it returned to Copenhagen to be prepared for a five day tip to Bergen, Norway. The ship is currently stationed at Aberdeen Harbour after a stop of in Kirkwall, Orkney. It is not yet known where it will travel next.
