You’ve heard of a message in a bottle but have you ever heard of a message in a shell?
There are stories over the years of people finding bottles with messages inside washed up on beaches – just last month a Moray teenager was reunited with one she cast to sea more than 15 years ago.
But this story is a little different.
Louise Dickson from Falkirk visits North Uist every October to see her relatives from the island.
She was on the bay at Lochmaddy near the ferry terminal when she decided to go for a walk at sunset to mark her last night there.
“That’s when the shell was found in two halves in the water just in reach,” she said.
“We only found one to begin with but managed to find the other among the rocks.
“I always looked for messages in a bottle at the beach as a child, so coming across this was a lovely way to end our most recent trip to North Uist.
“I would love to know who left it and when. It was put back into the bay at Lochmaddy where it belongs.”
