A new campaign aimed at promoting Scotland through renewed interest in Bonnie Prince Charlie has been given a financial boost.
VisitScotland has committed £40,000 to the project, which has been sparked off the success of the Outlander books and TV series, set around the time of the second Jacobite uprising.
A new trail takes in 25 locations around Scotland linked to the Young Pretender, with support from National Museums Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Royal Collection Trust and The National Trust for Scotland.
The announcement comes on the 229th anniversary of Charlie’s death.
Locations include the Glenfinnan Monument, Fort George and, of course, Culloden Battlefield.
Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “Bonnie Prince Charlie is one of Scotland’s most enduring historical figures and we are delighted, through the VisitScotland Growth Fund, to support this collaborative campaign that will help visitors follow in his footsteps.”
