Stunning pictures capture ‘different moods’ of UK coastline

A stunning picture of the Northern Lights illuminating the night sky over the north-east of England has been released.

It can be considered slight consolation to Scottish stargazers who missed out on the Lights two weeks ago when heavy cloud cover blocked what had been expected to be one of the brightest displays for years in the north of Scotland.

Photographer Owen Humphreys took the beautiful image of the aurora borealis as part of an 18-month project to capture the different ‘moods’ of the picturesque seaside near his home at St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay, East of Newcastle.

The spectacular images show weather ranging from storms to sunsets and of course the world famous Northern Lights.
