11 questions we hope season three of Twin Peaks will answer

Post Thumbnail

When it was announced that Twin Peaks had been renewed for a third season fans around the world rejoiced.

Mainly because they were excited for the much-acclaimed show was back, but also because season two had left them with so many unanswered questions.

As we get ready for episode one of the new season to begin, we take a look at the plot lines we hope will be explained:

1) What is the Black Lodge?

Season two’s ending was probably the strangest of all events that occurred in the Twin Peaks universe. Dale Cooper emerged from the Black Lodge and it appeared from the surreal scene at the end that he has been taken over by Killer Bob.

But what the Black Lodge is, and how it works remains a mystery.

2) Did Audrey Horne survive the blast at the bank?

In the second season finale we last see Audrey chained to the door in the bank vault. Just a few short minutes later a bomb explodes. Did she survive? And if so, will she be the same Audrey that we grew to love in the original series?

3) If Audrey survived, was she ever reunited with John Justice Wheeler?

Fans were no doubt disappointed when it looked unlikely that Audrey and FBI agent Dale Cooper were going to continue their growing love storyline. Then in stepped John Justice Wheeler – played by a young Billy Zane. In just a few short episodes he stole Miss Horne’s heart but had to fly back to Brazil due to an emergency. He left a promise that he would one day return. So did he?

4) Who ended up being Lucy Moran’s baby daddy?

One of the many, many subplots in Twin Peaks was the fact that receptionist Lucy Moran was pregnant – but she didn’t know who the father was. The choice was between Deputy Andy Brennan (who we were all rooting for) and men’s fashion salesman Dick Tremayne. In the end Lucy went with her heart and chose Andy before the biological father was revealed. But will season three disclose the results of a paternity test?

5) Is Leo alive?

He was one of the most-hated characters in the show and most of us will admit that we had little sympathy for him when he was captured by the evil and sadistic Windom Earle. The show ends with him tied up, a cage filled with tarantulas hanging about him. But did he manage to escape? His name doesn’t appear on the cast listings for the new season but hopefully we’ll still get some answers.

6) Was Windom Earle’s body ever found?

Windom Earle’s dangerous chess game was the focus of much of season two. And it is him that leads Dale Cooper to the Black Lodge where they have something of a showdown. As Earle asks Cooper to sacrifice himself for his love interest Annie, he is saved by Killer Bob. He tells Cooper that he will take his soul. But did the police ever find his body or is he still alive, trapped in the Black Lodge universe?

7) Is Ben Horne really Donna’s father?

One of the more traditional storylines in the later season was the revelation (or at least it appeared that way) that Audrey and Donna Hayward have the same father – Ben Horne. But do they?

8) What or who killed Josie Packard?

Like many characters in the show, Josie had a lot of secrets. But many of hers caught up with before she died in Sheriff Truman’s arms. Dale Cooper suggests she died from fear but maybe there is a plot twist in the wings? Was she poisoned perhaps?

9) Did James ever return to Twin Peaks?

Ok so this is one that we don’t really care about the answer. The brooding lover of murdered Laura Palmer seemed to move from one woman to the next before finally riding off into the sunset. He sent a postcard to girlfriend Donna from San Francisco, detailing his plans to head to Mexico. The trip was a chance for him to clear his head but did he ever return to Twin Peaks? (Here’s hoping the answer is no…)

10) How did the Nadine, Ed and Norma love-triangle end?

For most of season two Nadine was convinced she was a high school student again, dating a high school footballer and happy to see Ed finally reunite with his true love, Norma. Then she got hit on the head with a sandbag at the Miss Twin Peaks competition and she remembered that she was actually 35, not in love with Mike and upset at seeing Ed and Norma together. So did it all end happily ever after?

11) What happened to Agent Gordon Cole?

Despite only being in the series for one episode, Agent Gordon Cole is a character no fan will forget. Probably because it was in fact David Lynch himself who played the hard of hearing agent. He fell for waitress Shelley, the only person he could hear properly, before leaving the town. Did he return to sweep Shelley off her feet and away from Bobby Briggs?
