Moray cops make huge cocaine bust at Elgin home

Cocaine was recovered in the Smithton area of the city.
Cocaine was recovered in the Smithton area of the city.

A Moray woman has been arrested after police swooped on a property in Elgin and seized £25,000 worth of cocaine.

CID officers acting on intelligence carried out the raid on Friday, in the Hossack Drive area of the town.

Michelle Kelly appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday accused of being concerned in the supply of drugs, and of drugs possession.

The 31-year-old, who made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and released on bail.

She will return to court on a date yet to be confirmed.

Elgin Chief Inspector, Stewart Mackie, heralded the cocaine haul as a victory in the local force’s crackdown on drugs.

Since launching Operation Wittet this spring, officers have confiscated huge quantities of drugs across the region.

Ch Insp Mackie added: “We are continuing proactive work to make Moray a hostile environment for those involved in the illegal supply of drugs.

“A number of persons have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal this year.

“I would like to thank the community for their continued support and assistance when it comes to tackling the supply of illegal drugs, we will continue to take enforcement action and disrupt the activity of those bringing unwanted drugs into our communities.”

Residents with information on people involved in drug crime have been encouraged to contact the police on 101, or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 if they would prefer to remain anonymous.
