It was a 150,000-1 shot according to one national bookmakers.
But identical twins Steven and David Bisset have defied those odds after their wives gave birth on the same day.
The Black Isle brothers were working on a croft at Tore and received calls 12 hours apart to say their partners had gone into labour.
Kella Mac Bisset arrived first on Monday, August 15 at 6.15am weighing 7lbs 80z to Steven and Nicola. She was later joined by Robbie Stewart Bisset, who arrived later that same day at 8.41pm, weighing 9lbs 30z toparents David and Kim.
David and Kim, of Muir of Ord, were the first to go to the hospital and the last to leave.
And, remarkably, the women even passed each other in the corridor – as Nicola was being taken out of the labour suite, the door was held open for Kim to be taken in.
Steven, of North Kessock, said: “My wife joked about it happening before and we keep saying to ourselves, what were the chances?’
“Kella and Nicola are both doing fine, but it’s the point it is quite surprising that it’s all worked out in this way. And crossing paths in the hospital just adds to it all”.
It’s not the first time the 28-year-old twins have had occasion to celebrate together. They passed their driving tests on the same day when they were 17, and had their first driving lesson on their 17th birthday and passed their theory tests the next day.
The offshore worker twins also tied the knot last year, with Steven and Nicola marrying on June 20 and David and Kim following suit on November 19.
Steven’s wife Nicola said: “You see silly little coincidences all the time – the twins have gone out before and bought birthday cards for their mum and come home with the exact same one.
“You hear stories about this kind of thing and you just think, ‘that is freaky!'”
On one occasion they received money as a present and separately went shopping before both returning home and shocking the family after choosing identical signet rings.
The twins’ mother Mary Bisset said: “I’m ecstatic, people always think that twins are double trouble but they are double the delight.
“I love babies, I’m very excited for lots of play times, the new additions are my sixth and seventh grandchildren!”
Both sets of mothers and babies are doing well and settling in at home and the family are looking forward to hitting many more milestones together.
