A schoolboy was caught with a blade in a city playground, the Press and Journal can reveal.
The boy had the pen-knife with him while playing on the grounds of Kingsford School, Kingsford Road, Sheddocksley, on Monday night.
Police were alerted by a concerned member of the public.
They later spoke to the boy and his parents but no further action was taken as he was not believed to have been acting in a threatening manner.
Officers also confirmed the “pocket tool” the boy had was not illegal.
Yesterday morning, parents were alerted to the incident by text message.
It stated: “While children were playing in the playground last night at around 8pm there was an incident involving a pen knife. Please be assured that the police are dealing with this appropriately.”
The incident comes just weeks before the publication of the results of an independent inquiry into the killing of schoolboy Bailey Gwynne, who was stabbed to death by a fellow pupil at Cults Academy last October.
Last night, a parent of a young pupil at the school, said she was concerned by what had happened.
The mother, who did not wish to be named, said: “This is a family-centred community and school where things like this don’t normally happen.
“I want my child to be asking me me how many planets there are in the solar system not what a pen-knife is.
“I think we need to treat every incident this seriously so it doesn’t escalate.”
Tracey Nurse, who lives across the road from the building, said children and teenagers regularly enter the playground after the school shuts for the day.
She said: “Kids play there quite a lot and they can be quite noisy.
“They climb on top of the roof and you can hear them banging the gates.
“Something needs to be done for security, it’s not safe for the kids.”
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers attended at Kingsford Primary School in Aberdeen at around 8pm on Tuesday, August 22 2016 following a concern call regarding a youngster who was in possession of a small bladed pocket tool. Officers attended and gave suitable advice to the 10-year-old child and the parents of the child.
“The pocket tool found is not illegal and was not used in a threatening manner.”
