Four employers from across Scotland travelled to exercise Sava Star in Croatia to get a flavour of the transferable skills which are on offer in the Reserves.
The Press and Journal spoke to solicitor John McHugh, a partner in law firm Harper Macleod LLP, to find out which elements stood out most for him on the journey.
The firm has offices all across the country and two of those are in Shetland and Inverness.
Mr McHugh said: “I have been really impressed by what I have seen. It’s hard work with the soldiers in the heat and carrying gear.
“So I think the fact they are willing to spend their own spare time doing these activities which are hard work, is impressive, and suggests good people that are committed and reliable. I can see the benefits in terms of employment.
“They are picking up new skills here, particularly soft skills in the sense of leadership and self-discipline and teamwork, which are relevant to what employers are looking for.
“Having come here, it’s going to be an immediate conversation piece to go back with and tell the others what I have seen.
I will certainly be encouraging people who are interested in becoming Reservists and would also be looking to recruit on the basis that taking on a Reservist would be a benefit”.
