A major rescue operation was launched at Swordale after the 27-year-old was reported to have fallen at 12.30pm. He has since been taken to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway by coastguard helicopter Rescue 948. A spokesman for Stornoway Coastguard said the man is believed to be suffering from shock and mild hypothermia having spent some time in the water. The spokesman added: “Unfortunately the dog is deceased.” As well as the helicopter, three coastguard ground teams were called to the scene, as was the Stornoway lifeboat.
