More than £100,000 has been awarded by Europe to turn a former fish factory in the Outer Hebrides into a “world class” music recording studio.
Peter Fletcher is changing the use of the ex fish plant at Kirkibost Pier on Great Bernera into a recording studio with temporary accommodation for up to eight musicians.
Yesterday it was announced his First Love Music Ltd had received £115,000 of EU Leader funding.
The scheme won planning permission last year.
In an accompanying letter to Western Isles Council then, Mr Fletcher of Aird Tong on neighbouring Lewis, said the factory is the only suitable site having ruled out other possible locations during an 18 months search, including a former Free Church.
He said the studio will would become “a world class residential recording studio that will be one of the highlights of the creative industries in the Outer Hebrides.
“With close ties to the music industry in London and nationally, the development will bring a new industry to the area and will seek to establish the Outer Hebrides as a creative destination for musicians, bands and record labels who are looking to work in the unique environment and culture that the Outer Hebrides has to offer,” he told planners.
