The coveted traditional gold medals are the final showpiece event for solo singers and both have both been won by Lewis singers for the second successive year.
Torquil Macleod from Lochs and Claire Macaulay from Ness emerged the winners after a nerve-racking final at the Lewis Sports Centre.
They follow in the footsteps of Norman Macleod of Carloway, and Katey Graham of Back who were the winners in Oban last year.
In the traditional competition, singers can choose their own songs as opposed to the gold medal, where competitors sing prescribed songs.
It was third time lucky for Mr Macleod who tried for the medal twice before, including coming third in Inverness two years ago.
The 66-year-old said: “It’s a pressure you don’t have during the year when you are learning songs and then all of a sudden it’s just compounded when you are there. Nerves take over.
“You are so aware that it’s not just one or two judges, there’s everyone else in the hall.”
He said that he had told by his family had told him not to have a go at the other gold medal competition because “their nerves can’t take it”.
Mrs Macaulay, 33, now works as a Gaelic-medium primary school teacher in Glasgow but is originally from Ness at the northern end of Lewis.
She had made a previous attempt on the traditional final 14 and ten years ago.
She said it was her nerves which kept her from competing but decided to bite the bullet and have another go this year.
She said: “I just didn’t want to have any regrets. It was just fear keeping me back but I just decided I would rather be scared and do it than not do it.”
Mrs Macaulay said: “I know it’s a cliche but I didn’t expect it.
“I think because I’ve been competing in the choir competitions it’s not really sunk in because I haven’t had time to think about it too much.”
She also sings with the Glasgow Islay Choir and added to her success yesterday morning with a victory in the area choirs ladies competition.
